Sažetak
Burnd patients are lethally threatened patients. Local disorders caused by skin damage and loss of cell integrity lead to a series of systemic reactions and consequences. Burns account for 3, 2% of all injuries in patients admitted to the University Hospital of Traumatology Zagreb, during 2002. and 2003. year. The results of treatment of patients admitted to the burns Department of this medical facility, in the period from 1 January 2002. to 31. December 2003. were analyzed with regard to admittance criteria and the importance of prompt therapeutic procedures used in the treatment of burn patients. The aim of this analysis was to verify results of the therapeutic procedures into the everyday routine as well as the modifications based on the valid guidelines, used by leading international burn centers. The positive results for the year 2003 wich are manifested by a reduced number of hospital days, improved treatment outcomes and increased survival rates may not carry full weight due to a limited period, but they cannot be disregarded by any means. On the contary, these encouraging and challenging results are the incentives for further efforts in our pursuit of a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of burn patients who are the most severe trauma patients of all.
