Sažetak
To analyse risk factors in stroke patients and distribution of clinical stroke subtypes in continental part of Croatia. Study comprised 130 patients (pts), with mean age of 67.33 years who were treated in two hospitals: Department of neurology, University hospital Osijek and Department of neurology, General hospital Slavonski Brod. Diagnosis was established with brain computed tomography and other appropriate methods. We classified patients in hemorrhagic stroke (HS) group with subtypes: intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and subarachnoidal hemorrhage (SAH) and ischemic stroke (IS) group with subgroups according TOAST classification. We found following occurrence of stroke subtypes: HS in 17.69% ( with subtypes: ICH in 16.15% and SAH in 1.54%) and IS in 82.31% ( with subtypes: large vessel strokes in 22.31%, small vessel strokes in 33.08%, cardioembolic strokes in 19.23%, strokes from other causes in 2.31% and undetermined strokes in 5.38%). Eastern Croatia is region with very high incidence of risk factors for stroke, especially those which were known as life-style factors. The consequence of this situation is high proportion of lacunar strokes and cardioembolic strokes. Results of this study can be useful for clinicians and health service system for improvement of diagnostics, medical treatment and prevention of stroke.
