Sažetak
In continuatin of investigations of metal complexes inolving the sufractant molecules [1, 2] the present experiments were undertaken to study the extraction behaviour of the molyvdenum-thiocyanate complex in the presence of cationic surfactants (CS). The coloured molybdenum complex formed with thiocyanate in hydrochloric acid can be extracted with cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CPC) or with pdisobutylphenoxyethoxy-ethyl-dimethyl-benzyl ammonium chloride (Hyamine 1622) in chloroform in the presence of ascorbic acid as reducing agent. The oprimum conditions for extraction were 2M hydrochloric acid 2% asorbic acid. 0.2M thiocyanate complex in the organic phase showed maximum absorbance at 465 nm. The absorbance of the organic phase was stable for at least sic hours and follwed Beers law in the range of 2x10-6 – 5x10-5 M molyvdenum. The respective molar absorptivities were 4.6x104 L mole- 1cm-1 and 5.4x104 L mole-1cm-1. Study of the composition of the complex showed the CS:molybdenum ratio to be 1:3. That indicates that anionic molybdenum(V)-thiocyanate complexes bearing three negative charges are fomed in aqueous solutions and are transferred into the organic phase with the CS, probably as complexes of the formula (CS)3 [MoO2SCN4].
