Sažetak
Sharpsnout bream (Diplodus puntazzo) is present in Adriatic aquaculture for less than a decade, but with decreasing trend of its rearing it will be probably completely substituted by more exploited sea bream (Sparus aurata). Only two facilities still rear in monoculture both fish species. During the monitoring of gill monogeneans, a switch of parasites was observed between sparids. Lamellodiscus elegans (Monogenea: Monopisthocotylea) previously reported only in sharpsnout bream was isolated from sea bream, however in lower prevalence and abundance. The exclusively sea bream's monogenean Sparicotyle chrisophrii (Monogenea: Polyopisthocotylea), was isolated also from the sharpsnout bream, showing prevalence and abundance values even higher then in its resident host. In first case, an opportunistic switch to a new host was presumed, imposed by space availability constraints that probably will not become permanent in future. In second case, the monogenean showed better reproductive capacity on a new host that resulted in extremely high prevalence/ abundance values, pointing the possibility of complete adaptation on the new host and possible speciation.
