Sažetak
Feeding patterns of tabanids on horses in Eastern Croatia were investigated during 1993 and 1994. In total, 2205 horse flies belonging to the six most commonly collected species were used in the analysis: Haematopota subcylindrica Pandelle, 1883, Tabanus bromius L., 1758, Haematopota pluvialis L., 1758, Hybomitra ciureai (Seguy, 1937), Chrysops parallelogrammus Zeller, 1842 and Tabanus autumnalis L., 1761. Chi-square analysis indicated non random landing patterns by these horse flies on a horse. Horse flies significantly distinguish between particular parts of the body of a horse. Of the total number of horse flies that have landed 42.80% belong to the ventral side. Only 3% of the total number of horse flies land on the back of the horse. The stochastic linear connection is the strongest between the landings of the Ch. parallelogrammus and Hy.ciureai, because landed on the same body regions (matrix R) and it is the weakest between T. autumnalis and Ha. subcylindrica. The largest variation interval according to the parts of the horse's body characterizes the specimens of the species T.bromius and the smallest variation interval has been registered for the species Ha. pluvialis.
