Sažetak
This paper deals with the importance of teaching writing skills in EFL classes. Besides explaining the importance of teaching writing, this paper also gives an overview of traditional and current approaches to the topic. As part of this work, a survey was conducted among the high-school learners on the topic of the writing itself, to get an insight into learners’ attitude towards writing practice in EFL classes. On the basis of the results obtained, our conclusion is that in teaching writing the stress should be on functional writing, on offering enough grammar practise and especially on writing practise based on listening, reading or discussion. Regarding writing compositions, our opinion is that best results are obtained when given free writing assignments, if the learners have not had experience with the writing process
