Sažetak
The world of telecommunications is constantly growing. Same users that were satisfied with plain telephones and fax machines a few years ago today demand high speed Internet access and even real time multimedia applications. Network technology that aims on providing those services must both provide high bandwidth on demand and guaranted quality of service. This paper, in brief, presents basic concepts behind ATM QoS. We first discuss source characteristics and how sources can describe their behavior to the ATM network. We then discuss how source and network contribute to cell delay and delay variation. Next, we present ATM layer quality of service parameters. Finally, congestion control and traffic control methods that help maintain QoS in a connection are described.
