Sažetak
An overview of the history as well as a classification of 'readers' and 'reading schemes' in the context of the educational contexts of the English language is provided. Cambridge ELT readers for young learners are taken as examples, analysed and compared to some 'real books'and 'reading schemes' with reference to several linguistic, cultural and EFL teaching relevant aspects. Their respective instructional potentials are discussed in the context of teaching English as a foreign language.
