Sažetak
To identify problems of the knee joint in children with OCD and to find out which factors may influence poor surgical outcome. Hospital charts from the period 1977-2003 were reviewed. Inclusion criteria: OCD that is within the Classification of constitutional diseases of the bones, patients with deformity of the knee joint. Surgery was evaluated on the basis of recurrence of the deformity and the functional outcome. Out of forty-nine individuals with some type of OCD, nineteen had at least one knee joint problem e.g. genus varum, genus valgum, instability of the knee joint or patella, knee-flexation contracture and knee latero-medial laxity. Twelve patients underwent operations on 17 limb segments due to disturbed function and pain. Recurrence of deformity was found in eight limb segments and seven were re-operated. Re-do surgery and poor outcome is influenced by the type of OCD, angular deformity coupled with knee laxity or flexation contracture, the surgeon´s underestimation of intra-articular deformity associated with OCD. Specific groups of OCD are more prone to knee joint deformities. To avoid recurrence of deformity, bone surgery should be carefully planned with attention to soft tissue problems as well.
