Sažetak
Interdisciplinary experiment, including measurements of physical, chemical and biological properties, was undertaken in the Split harbour area (Middle Adriatic) in order to solve the crucial problems: waste waters of the city of Split and any kind of wastes expelled from the ships. Diffusion was measured using RHODAMINE-B tracer weakened by methanol and acetone. After the tracer had been ejected into the sea, the oil spill was followed using three theodolites from the land, moreover, by photographing the area. The results show that the surface currents during the low winds reached maximum of 20 cm/s at the harbour entrance, while inside they had lower values (to 10 cm/s). The horizontal diffusion coefficient, calculated from the simple one-dimensional Okubov model, had values between 0.3 and 1.1 cm/s. Seasonally, the diffusion coefficient had higher values during summertime, while during winter it had lower values as a result of the influence of current field.
