Sažetak
Savings are an important factor of the financial system of every national economy. The source of savings, primarily determined by the size of the income, are channeled into the financial system thorugh various monetary forms. Therefore, savings are the input of the financial system, its liabilty on wihich dipends, among other factor, the quality of portfolio. Insurance companies, important financial institutions, transfer specific forms of contractual savings into their own financial portfolio. Their role as financial investor is conditioned in this way, in the one hand through the savings collected, and on the other hand, through the offer of financial instruments and the portfolio management policy. In the last ten years, Croatian insurance companies have gone through a significant expansion giving them the necessary importance for the furhter development of financial institutions and markets.
