Sažetak
Economically important Croatian native varieties have to undergo clonal selection in order to be preserved and prepared for modern plant material production. Otherwise, they will be pushed out from the national cultivar list by selected foreign cultivars. Clonal selection of native cultivars has to be done by Croatian institutes, which all together have basic infrastructure (equipment and knowledge). However, due to lack of tradition, co-operation with foreign (EU) institutes is essential. National strategy and system of certified plant material production, based on real need capacities and future forecasts, has to be designed. In order to help in creation such program, we suppose the most effective way could be organisation of an international workshop with participation of relevant domestic and foreign experts, government administration and nursery experts.
