Sažetak
The methods for intake manifold design, which will lead to the increase of volumetric efficiency by use of dynamic changes of pressure, are presented in the introductory part of the paper. Analytical methods for tuning the intake pipe length and diameter to specific engine speed, and the methods dealing with the resonance in the intake manifold are considered. The main part of the paper comprises the analysis of these methods that has been conducted on a simulation model of a four-cylinder spark ignited engine. Physical and chemical processes are considered on the model, from the moment the air enters the intake system till the combustion gases leave the exhaust pipe. It is also shown how one-dimensional simulation calculations can be used for the analysis of a single intake system element influence on volumetric efficiency of the engine, and for selection of the optimal solution for given demands.
