Sažetak
When the EC take the necessary measures to ensure the interoperability of the rail networks that means the ability of the trans-European high-speed rail system to allow the safe and uninterrupted movement of high-speed trains. Length of train journeys and speeds were increasing together with heavier loads, wheel bearings were improved with better lubricants. This led to increased reliability, but also rendered traditional methods of maintenance obsolete. The roller bearings being used would not give any visible warning of overheating to anyone visually inspecting a passing train, such as a driver or a signaler on his table. The axle bearings of rolling stock on the railways are as susceptible as any bearings are to overheating due to overloading or poor maintenance. Detection of an overheating bearing at an early stage is critical as the cost of failure of the wheel set increases rapidly to the point of seriously large amounts. Early detection will save the cost of the wheel set. Late or no detection may cost lives.
