Sažetak
Drug resistant and multidrug resistant tuberculosis is a consequence of human activity. Resistant isolates of M. tuberculosis are mainly prevalent in regions with weak national TB progammes or poor socio-economic environment. Surveillance of tuberculosis in Croatia is based on individual and laboratory notifications united in Epidemiology service Croatian National Institute of Public Health Tuberculosis Register (TR). Susceptibility testing was performed in 19, 448 strains during 1993-2002 period. In case of multiple testing in one patient, only the result of the initial testing was taken into analysis. Resistance to one or more antituberculotic drugs was detected in 173 (6.7%) in 1993 to 74 (5.3%) strains in 2002. Monoresistance was observed in 10 (0, 5%) in 1993 to 34 (0, 2%) strains in 2002, with the monoresistance to isoniazid as the most prevalent – from 50 (1, 9%) in 1993 to 25 (1, 8%) strains in 2002. Multidrug resistant tuberculosis varied from 44 (1, 7%) in 1993 to 31 (2, 2%) strains in 2002. The results of the ten year surveillance of the prevalence of drug resistant and multidrug resistant tuberculosis show that Croatia has a favorable situation which should be kept up following strictly the measures of the national TB progamme.
