Sažetak
A provenance experiment of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) with a total of 36 provenances (150 seedlings per provenance) covering 13 European countries was established in Kutina (Croatia) in 1998. Six provenances representing entire Europe (from Czech Republic, France, Sweden, Ukraine, one and two from Croatia) were selected. Flushing as a property of physiological character was monitored in 7 phenophases, which were recorded on 7 dates during the year 2001 (2 April, 10 April, 18 April, 26 April, 4 May, 10 May, 16 May). Phenophase 3, indicating the very beginning of flushing, was selected for analysis due to its importance in determining resistance to late frosts and transpirational ability of individual provenances. Differences in entering phenophase 3 were analysed with the product-limit estimator. A log rank test was conducted to determine whether there were any statistically significant differences in entering phenophase 3 among the provenances. For multiple comparisons post hoc Hochberg’ s (step-up) algorithm has been used. Flushing similarity (expressed in percentages of the number of trees in phenophase 3 for a given date) was analysed with hierarchical and non-hierarchical (k-means) cluster analysis. The results of this research have confirmed differences in flushing time among the provenances. The provenances were ranked with multi-criteria analysis (AHP) in order to select the most adaptable ones using the following criteria: survival, entering phenophase 3, mean height.
