Sažetak
The group of 23 uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis who were suffering from amyloidosis-related chronic pain was treated by modulation electrotherapy (MET). The group consisted of 11 male and 12 female patients who were treated following a standardized protocol for 7 consecutive days. During the study period and 2 months of follow-up, no other analgesic therapies were allowed. The difference of pain intensity before and after the treatment was statistically significant p< 0.05, Hotteling's T-squared test). Pain relief lasted for more than 2 months in the majority of patients. No adverse effects were observed during either the study period or the 2-months follow-up. Despite the fact that MET is only a symptomatic therapy with temporary effects, it could significantly increase the quality of life of uremic patienta.
