Sažetak
The subject of the microeconomic analysis in this scientific discussion is the phenomenon of urban traffic, in other words, those economic variables which directly and significantly influence the effectiveness of traffic flowing through the cities. The modified economic structure and considerable importance of economic activities settled in the cities point out the urban traffic as well as suitable traf- fic structure as one of the basic factors in the success of numerous economic activities in the cities. One of the basic problems in microeconomic analysis is the analysis of the forces of supply and demand. The balance between supply and demand in urban traffic, especially on the particular urban routes, is the key to the solution of the problem of urban traffic. Beside the factors which determine supply and demand in urban traffic, the subject of microeconomic analysis are also the factors which determine the maximum flow of vehicles or transport capacity of a route. The main aim of this scientific paper is to stress the possibilities of better use of capacities as well as human potential of traf- fic firms in urban traffic. In order to ensure the application of the obtained theoretical achievements of this scientific debate, it will be considerably based on the practical examples and the characteristics of the urban traffic in the city of Rijeka.
