Sažetak
The first part of the paper focuses on the problem of traffic in tourism, and vice versa as well, the problem of tourism in traffic. These are interrelated as equivalencies and as such interact mutually. The existence of one is not essentially necessary for the viability of the other, but it is sufficient. The sufficiency results from the possible common development both of each of them individually and of their correlation with each other. Tourism is characterised by two basic values reflected through supply and demand. Simultaneously with the growing of the level of civilisation, the quality of supply and the form of demand change as well. The complexity of the present demand puts significant questions regarding the harmony of the traffic system in general, and on individual branches of the traffic system, depending on the individual choice, but also on the supply of the receptive area. Further focus results from greater awareness of the preservation of the heritage of the planet Earth, raising the question of environmentally preserved countries and their natural resources. Such interpretation of demand provides the basis for creating a new form of tourism, and that is environmental or eco-tourism. The remaining part of the paper focuses on the role of the railway system of Croatia in the domain of tourism. Advantages and drawbacks of the present railway traffic system in Croatia are given in comparison with road traffic at local and macro levels. The paper also considers the priorities in constructing railway infrastructure, which have been caused by modern tourist demand.
