Sažetak
A modern concept of bioclimatic and self-sufficient dwelling in Mediterranean area is presented. Unlike utility connected house, energy independent house must balance every aspect of energy consumption, including energy consumption of freshwater and wastewater systems. Passive architectural design substantially reduces the need for additional heating, cooling and artificial lighting. Energy requirements are further reduced with recuperation of hot water and ventilation air energy and direct utilization of liquefied petroleum gas as a fuel for heat appliances. Solar energy, produced in PV cells, provides a major part of electric energy, and a major part of heat is produced in solar collectors. Micro cogeneration, simultaneously producing both heat and electric energy, is able to meet the rest of the energy demand, especially in winter when solar energy is less abundant. The concept of a self-sufficient house intended for rural tourism on islands represents a model for designing houses in rural areas lacking a developed utility infrastructure network.
