Sažetak
The paper is focused on the medium voltage rural distribution network planning. The examples of PRAO software application are elaborated on the typical Croatian 35-10 kV distribution system with the following characteristics: 35 kV network with a high share of old lines, long 10 kV feeders with small cross-sectioned conductors (Al/Fe 25 mm2, Al/Fe 35 mm2), 10 kV feeders are usually radial, with no possibility for backup power in case of a power cut. The main problems are relatively high loads comparing to admissible thermal currents in the beginnings of feeders, relatively high loads of 35/10 kV transformers, high voltage drops on the ends of 10 kV feeders, low power delivery quality and relatively high 35 kV network maintenance costs.
