Sažetak
This paper presents a case study of the social meanings of computer-mediated communication during and after the wars of the Yugoslav succession. Its main focus is on the ZaMir (for peace) network which was established as a BBS and as a link between peace groups in different post-Yugoslav capitals at the start of the wars in the early 1990s. The paper explores the political significance of the network in terms of anti-war activism and the subsequent development of ZaMir as an NGO promoting CMC as an aspect of community development in war-torn areas of Croatia. The paper addresses tensions between online and offline activist dentities and considers the implications for both of the 'NGOization' of social movements.
