Sažetak
Composite materials filled with nanofillers, instead of microfillers, could be the bases for the new adhesive products with improved and/or new performance, due to the significant amount of matrix under the direct influence of a large surface area of nanofillers. For the improvement of composite properties of a great importance is good filler dispersion in the polymer matrix, wetting ability and the strength of interactions. The importance of the homogeneous nanofiller dispersion in matrix, lead us to the necessity of nanocomposite preparation in a way that will assure the evenly distributed nanofillers without agglomerates, by mixing the previously pre-treated nanofillers, for example by silane pre-treatment and by irradiation, and/or by in situ polymerisation. Throughout the presentation it will be demonstrated the examples of composites based on poly (vinyl acetate)(PVAc) matrix and/or polyurethane (PU) matrix filled with untreated and variously pre-treated calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanofillers vs. microfillers, usually used as adhesives. The goal was to investigate the differences in morphology and properties, due to the expected great amount of polymer matrix affected by nano-sized filler particles with high specific surface area, in comparison to the small amount affected by the micro-sized filler particles, as well as the effects of the filler pre-treatments. The higher work of adhesion, with no signs of dewetting in nanocomposites vs. standard commercial microcomposites, resulted in the improved mechanical properties of the nanocomposite films as a potential row material in the allied adhesive products with the improved strength of the related adhesive joint.
