Sažetak
The compressed air effectiveness used in the band saw blade strain guides is still a very interesting and yet not sufficiently clarified problem since it is influenced by many parameters. Strain guides increase machine's own resistance. Due to the pressure between strain guides and band saw blade the friction forces cause a loss of energy, heat the band saw blade and reduce its stability. To reduce the undesired effect of the strain guides, the compressed air is flown through the guides. The compressed air flow reduces the contact pressure between the guides and the saw blade, the heating of the saw blade and the loss of energy. Moreover, the compressed air expansion provides an additional saw blade cooling. The optimal compressed air pressure may effect the total band saw blade efficiency significantly. Complex measurements need to be carried out in order to establish optimal values of the influencing parameters. The paper describes results of some of the measurements that were carried out on the "BONGIOANNI 1300 CANADIAN" band saw.
