Sažetak
Croatian competitiveness towards its trading partners is rather low and this fact presents a major obstacle in convergence of Croatia towards European Union. Concerning the fact that Croatia is one of the countries with substantial surplus of current account of balance of payments throughout the 1970-1995, issue of competitiveness in post-transitional period is even more puzzling. In this paper, cross-county analysis with competitiveness data for transition countries is conducted. Economic stability, credit rating, public spending, corruption, legal system, innovation and technology development are analyzed in as elements of competitiveness. The goal of the article is to find out whether post-transitional economic environment and economic policy in Croatia will result with increase or decrease in competitiveness and which reforms are required in order to promote Croatian exports.
