Sažetak
Although “ fear-of-crime” has been the subject to substantial theoretical and empirical attention over the past decades, systematic research on fear of crime have not been conducted in Croatia till now . In this paper, self-reported victimisation and fear of crime data, collected nation-wide from a representative sample of 1248 adult persons during 2003, will be presented. Study results will be compared with data available from other countries. One of the aims of this study was to asses socio-demographic differences in victimization experiences and fear of crime. The other aim was to investigate relative power of: socio-demographic variables, previous vicitmization, perception of crime problems and their severity, use of crime prevention measures, and satisfaction with police and criminal justice practises in prediciting personal crime concern and, and personal safety. In this paper an overview of the major findings will be presented. Particular attention will be given to the similarites and differences obtained in the similar studies from other counitres.
