Sažetak
Nowadays in Croatia there are two autochthonous pig breeds: Turopolje Pig and Black Slavonian Pig, and several poultry breeds, as follows: Zagorje Turkey, Drava Goose and Croatian Hen. Black Slavonian Pig came into being in the second half of 19th century, at the Orlovnjak farm nearby Osijek. Because of its resistance, Black Slavonian Pig was kept outdoors, on pastures and in forests. Sows usually have a litter of 7-8 piglets, whose born weight is from 0.760-1.920 kg. Average size of sucking litter is 6– 7, weighting 8-12 kg. Losses in the sucking phase fluctuate from 10-20%. In the sucking period, sows produce daily up to 3 kg of milk. In the intensive fattening phase, Black Slavonian Pigs have an average daily gain of 500-550 g, by consuming 4.5-5 kg of maize per one kilo of weight gain. Analysis of data of MLD qualitative traits (pH1 6.48± ; 0.29, pH2 5.62± ; 0.12, W.H.C. 5.07± ; 0.57 cm2 and Göfo 68.00± ; 5.66) showed that all indicators are within the values of meat of good technological characteristics (Kralik and Petričević, 2001). Significantly higher portion of intramuscular fat in muscular tissue (6– 8 %), besides other mentioned quality indicators, proves that meat of Black Slavonian Pig is suitable for production of high quality smoked and cured meats, such as Slavonian Kulen, sausages, ham and bacon. Turopolje Pig breed came into being in the 6th century by crossing the Šiška breed with Slovenian Krškopolje Pig. This breed is well adapted to the environment and highly resistant to diseases. Fattened pigs of 20 to 100 kg have an average daily weight gain of 550 g, consuming 5-6 kg of maize per one kilo of weight gain in the late fattening period. Meat of this pig is tasty, of pink color and meets the market requirements. It is used for production of traditional smoked and cured meats. The content of intramuscular fat in MLD is 3-4% (Đikić et al., 2002). Zagorje Turkey or domestic turkey is the autochthonous breed reared extensively on family farms in the region of Hrvatsko Zagorje. At the age of 24 weeks, males reach the average weight of 5.7 to 5.9 kg, and females 3.7 to 3.9 kg (Mužic et al., 2004). Same authors state that Zagorje turkey needs 2.3 do 2.5 kg of feed per kilo of weight gain. Dressing percentage is almost the same in both males and females, being 65% and 66% respectively. Drava Goose created out of the wild goose (Anser cinereus) and kept extensively on pastures along the rivers. This breed is highly resistant and adjustable to climatic conditions. Adult males weigh from 5 to 7 kg, and adult females 4 to 5 kg. If they are intensively fattened, they can weigh up to 2 kg more. It lays on average 10-15 eggs, on which it sits for 30 days. Egg shell is white, weighting 140-160 g. It hatches 10-12 goslings. Croatian Hen is autochthonous breed also known as Dudica. It is found in the regions of Podravina and Međimurje. Croatian hen is known as a good brooding hen, resistant to diseases. It is one of few breeds that still has a hatching instinct. Live weight of adult cocks and hens ranges from 3.5 to 4 kg, and 2.5 to 3 kg, respectively. In good keeping and feeding conditions, laying of Croatian Hen is between 200 and 240 eggs per year. These breeds are considered to be a significant genetic and strategic resource, having potential value for future development of livestock breeding.
