Sažetak
Successful treatment of wastewater with high nitrogen content includes aerobic nitrification and anaerobic denitrification. Therefore, the physical separation of these bioprocesses or temporal separation by changing bioprocess conditions (aerobic/anaerobic) in the same bioreactor are necessary. Another possibility is simultanuous process by bacterium Paracocuccus denitrificans that is capable to conduct simultaneous nitrification and denitrification. In this work, P. denitrificans was cultivated in synthetic medium with acetate as a carbon source and NH_4^+ and/or NO_3^- ions as nitrogen sources. During batch and repeated batch cultivation the rate of biomass growth, substrate consumption, nitrification and denitrification and the effect of aeration on the bioprocess dynamics were monitored. Results of this investigation will be used for development of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification with P. denitrificans in horizontal rotating tubular bioreactor.
