Sažetak
In the Adriatic sea, Pecten jacobaeus is spread along the east coast as a part of bentonic communitis. Although there is no permanent monitoring of scallop exploitation, it is continuously carried out in the fishing area of zone (A) off the north-west coast of Istria. Monthly data regarding the catching of scallop are gathered directly from the hauls that fishermen bring to the Fishing Department in the local base of Pula. Fishing gear for catching scallop belongs to a group of bottom trawl gears and is termed dredge with a metal frame and teeth. Annual catch of scallop for the year 2001 was 270, 34 t. Fishing zone A is today being fished by 115 vessels for scallop exploitation. Their average engine power ranges from 81.7 to 205.7 kW depending on their dead weight or from 59, 16 to 316 kW depending on the overall length of the vessel (Loa). The most intesive exploatation is done before and during the tourist season. A big inadequancy are reception ponts with auction whiche existed in countries with develloped fishery market.Thoug the knowledge about scallop, its distribution and abundance in the Adriatic is scanty it will be necessary done comprehensively investigations whiche could permit valuation of natural seabeds and posibility of their exploatation.
