Sažetak
The musky octopus, Eledone moschata (Lamarck, 1798) and the horned octopus, Eledone cirrhosa (Lamarck, 1798) are two species of the genus Eledone (Cephalopod: Octopoda) living in the Adriatic Sea. The distribution of the horned octopus in the Croatian territorial waters is limited to the open sea of the Central Adriatic. This species is found at depths from 80 to 242 m, but it is mainly caught in waters deeper than 100 m. The musky octopus is widely distributed in the Northern and Central Adriatic, at depths from 20 to 165 m, but catches are most abundant in shallower waters, at depths down to 80 m. The highest abundance values for this species were registered at depths down to 50 m in the North-Eastern Adriatic (western side of Istra). In some parts of the Central Adriatic Sea distribution areas of these two species are overlapping, while in most areas only one of them is found.
