Sažetak
The Sava lowland between towns of Zagreb and Sisak is filled with Quaternary alluvial sediments thus making an aquifer in which great amount of groundwater is accumulated. The aquifer is in a hydraulic connection with Zagreb aquifer located upstream, which represents the main source of potable water in this area. Because of small thickness of the covering layer in the hanging wall of the aquifer, and numerous sources of pollution, the Zagreb aquifer vulnerability is rather high. Therefore the area between Zagreb and Sisak is quite perspective for the future development of public water supply system. The structural and lithological properties of sediment have substantial influence on possible locations of future pumping sites. Examined area belongs to the southwestern part of the Pannonian basin whose evolution is tracked since Neogen. The neotectonic and paleoclimatic changes had the main influence on the formation and the lithological composition of the aquifer. The geometry of gravel-sandy aquifer and low permeable covering aquitard is shown on the structural maps and on the lithological cross-sections. The values of hydrogeological parameters of the aquifer and the conditions of its recharge are as well examined and presented in the paper.
