Sažetak
The incerased consuption od "Ecstasy" over the past ten years has resulted in an increased number of young people hospitalised due to acute and chronic, often life threatening intoxications. The specific quality of its primary effects of pleasure and elevated mood accompanied by strong emotions, an openness in social contacts and unavoidable psychostimulation on one hand, and absence of classical symptoms of addiction on the other hand, make this substance almost ideal for development of abuse. Following the first, or repeated uses of the substance, the users may develop acute psychogenic disorders, but also neuroleptic and serotonin syndromes, hyperpyrexia, rhabdomyolysis, and acute insufficiency of kidney, liver and cardiovascular system. Cases of lethal and have been reported too. The drama of certain clinical pictures is related to intensive-care therapy at intensive care units where about 20-40% of patients die according to the cases of acute intoxication reported so far.
