Sažetak
In the first weeks of life the piglets originating from vaccinated sows have a protective level of specific maternal antibodies for CSF virus. Due to the interference of specific maternal antibodies and the vaccinal virus the piglets originating from vaccinated sows should be vaccinated by the end of the second month of age (1). In our trials it was evident that in the first three weeks of life the piglets originating from vaccinated sows had the level of specific maternal antibodies for CSF virus which protected them completely from infection. In the period from the 21st to the 42nd day of age the level of specific maternal antibodies provided a partial protection when challenged, but it was high enough for the interference with the vaccinal virus. After the 56th day the level of specific maternal antibodies in the sera of piglets was not high enough to protect the animals from the infection, but it had no negative effects to developing the active immunity after a single vaccination with 100 RaTD50. For the success of vaccination of the piglets originating from vaccinated sows it is necessary to know the level of specific maternal antibodies for CSF virus. According to the results obtained and considering the epizootiological situation in the Republic of Croatia the programme of twofold vaccination of piglets prescribed by the Law is justified.
