Sažetak
Cold-blooded horses breeds in Croatia, differentiated in three breeds (Croatian cold-blooded, Muinsulaner horse and Posavina horse), belong to the group of autochthonous endangered breeds. Genetic polymorphisms at the protein- and DNA-level can be successfully used for population analysis and for establishing relationships within and among breeds (populations). Mitochondrial DNA has been frequently used as a marker system in population and evolutionary studies. In this study, by analysing polymorphic blood proteins and mitochondrial DNA, we investigated the genetic structure of the Cold-blooded horses in Croatia, made an attempt to determine genetic distance between populations and within other cognition horse breeds. Mitochondrial DNA was isolated from blood samples of thirteen unrelated animals. Our results show relatively high genotypic diversity within and between three autochthonous horse breeds in Croatia. Our molecular data nicely support phenotypic differentiation between Posavina horse on one side and Croatian cold-blooded and Muinsulaner horse on the other side. These results are the first indicators for genetic profile of mentioned breeds and will stimulate further research and application of molecular data for selection.
