Sažetak
The introductory part of the paper surveys briefly the historical context of the relationship between the two Adriatic coasts in the period from the fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797 to the outbreak of the revolution of 1848 in Venice. The paper discusses the participation of the persons originating from Istra, Dalmatia and the Gulf of Kotor (Boka) in the revolutionary events of 1848 and 1849, focussing in particular the organisation and structure of the legion of the volunteers from Dalmatia and Istria, the contribution of prominent individuals (in the first place that of officers and soldiers) in the defence of the city, as well as the contribution of prominent intellectuals (writers, publicists, historians and politicians), who participated to the anti-Austrian struggle either from Venice or directly from their places of origin.
