Monitoring of isotopes in monthly precipitation has been performed at continental sampling station in Ljubljana (Slovenia) since 1980 within the GNIP. In the framework of IAEA Co-ordinated Research Program "Isotopic Composition of Precipitation in the Mediterranean Basin in Relation to Air Circulation Patterns and Climate" the monitoring program was extended to two additional sampling stations (i.e. Portoroz Airport and Kozina) in the Mediterranean region of Slovenia since October 2000. In this study, we present 3-years long monthly, as well as periodical daily records of isotopic composition in precipitation together with meteorological data (i.e. precipitation amount, air temperature) from two stations in Slovenian Mediterranean region, as well as from Ljubljana. Considerable daily variations in stable isotopic composition were observed during selected periods. The highest values were observed at coastal station Portoroz Airport and the lowest, due to continental effect, at Ljubljana. Higher values were significant for the start of precipitation event and decreased during precipitation event. Most of obtained data lie slightly above the GMWL and show the influence of Mediterranean air masses. The correlation with precipitation amount and temperature is very poor and demonstrates that individual weather patterns, storm tacks and air mass mixing are far too chaotic to develop a clear relationship. Tritium activity concentrations in monthly precipitation vary seasonally at all three stations from ≤ 0.4 to 2.2 Bq/L and are typical for the continental stations of Northern Hemisphere. The lowest values were observed in winter and the highest in early summer.
