Sažetak
Much attention is given nowadays to local and regional development in Croatia, mainly due to the ongoing decentralisation process and increasing awareness of local and regional component of the national growth policy. Although many policy incentives have been undertaken, there are still serious constraints to local and regional development. Two key issues have been identified in Croatia: statistics and institutional framework. Statistical information is the basis for sound local and regional development analysis and the creation of a comparable statistical database is set as a priority goal for the future of local and regional development. Knowledge of the institutional framework under which local and regional government performs is a key factor of success for local and regional development, whereby institutional constraints and incentives to local and regional development are identified. Comparison of institutional framework of local and regional development in Croatia and other countries is provided as well.
