Sažetak
Diocletian palace in Split dates at the 3rd century A.D. During the development of the town, inside the palace there were many reconstructions made on the destroyed rests of previous building placed on the same location. In the 17th century Emperor Diocletian's mausoleum was reconstructed. On the east side chorus is added and mausoleum is reconstructed in Saint Duje cathedral. On east and south side of that chorus there are buildings still in use as the residences. Those buildings have forms made with the numerous reconstructions during the Middle age. With the archaeological investigations made for the purpose of construction stabilisation, it is found that the part of the those building foundations are placed on the walls of thermae dated in the Roman period. It is found that the thermae floor is placed about 4.0 meters under the existing elevation of surrounding street. Area of the thermae was covered with the embankment made from different, mostly trash, material. Other part of the construction walls (about one half) have shallow foundations, placed about 1.0 meters deep in the embankment. With the geotechnical investigation it is found that walls from the Romans age are founded on the sandstone from flysch formation. The paper is presentation of the reconstruction solution of the shallow foundations, with special demands from restorers for presentation of all archaeological excavations. Reconstruction of shallow foundations is made with groups of small piles made through the thermae floor.
