Sažetak
New special precise applications are constantly prompting all the production chain participants to more stringent demands as to the quality of material, i.e. its high chemical compositions homogenity, narrow geometrical tolerances, its mechanical and technological properties which are assessed and adopted only after having complied with the most stringent criteria of advanced testing and statistical data processing methods. The success achieved on this complex and highly demanding production course, from the initial to the final product stage, definitely starts by the high-quality casting. To this efect, the predominant role is given to advanced equipment to provide the target melt quality level and thus replacing hard operator`s labour. In the first place, this relates to the Electro-magnetic pump for intensive melt mixing and the melt refinement equipment. The efficiency of these advanced equipment is revealed through low waste rate in solid charge melt, high heat and chemical homogenity, and high degassing and high elimination efficiency of non-metallic inclusions from the melt. These parameters have been corroborated by appropriate test results of the slabs cast on the reconstructed and revamped Vertical D.C. Casting Line at TLM Casthouse. Yet, the final assessment rate as to the slab quality can only be presented after the material behaviour has been monitored in downstream processing stages, from the hot and cold rolling process to the final surface treatment, whereby material is frequently subjected to very demanding technological operations.
