Sažetak
Effects of the hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment on the ERK and JNK activation signals in the hippocampus and optic nerves of rats exposed to global cerebral ischaemia were studied. Animals were exposed to global cerebral ischaemia (20 min duration) and after different reperfusion periods (5 and 10 min ; 1 ; 6 and 12 h after ischaemia), ERK and JNK activation signals were determined. A part of ischaemic animals were exposed to HBO after reperfusion during seven consecutive days, at 222, 86 kPa pressure of 99, 5% oxygen, lasting 60 min. Results: The activation signals of ERK and JNK in hippocampus and optic nerves of the ischaemic animals were registered during all reperfusion periods tested, but maximal activation was found 1 h after ischaemia. In the optic nerves, second strong activation signal was repeated after 12 h of reperfusion. After the HBO treatment, intensity of activation signals was decreased or suppressed during all reperfusion periods tested. Our results indicated that activation of ERK and JNK were implicated in early and a later periods of reperfusion injury such as that pretreatment with HBO may have a possible protective effect in cerebral ischaemia.
