Sažetak
The article analyses boundary-defining efforts regarding the constructions, presentations and perceptions of Croatian culture, which occupy a central place in Croatian cultural-thus-national self-perception in 1990s. The trends dominant both in Croatia and its diaspora(s) are analysed, and their interconnectedness pointed out. In the paragraph on "Boundaries attempted" the perception of the Balkans as a culturally significant Other is assessed, and the efforts to make the world accept Croatian belonging to Europe. The paragraph on "Boundaries at stake" is devoted to diasporic political and emotional concerns with the Croatian language. In the paragraph on "Boundaries established" the dominant practice in the diaspora of presenting folk music and dances as Croatian culture, is discussed. The paragraph on "Boundaries dissolved" offers some insights into the current conflation of religious and national identity.
