Sažetak
We analyzed patients hospitalized for urogenital infections at the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases "Dr. Fran Mihaljević" in Zagreb in the period from 1999 to 2001. A total of 1757 patients were analyzed, with the most frequently administered antimicrobial agent being gentamycin (710 patients or 40, 4%). Other patients, 1047 or 59, 5% received the following agents: cephalosporins (469 ; 26, 6%), II generation 328 (18, 6%), III generation (141 ; 8, 0%), followed by amoxycyline/clavulanate (157 ; 8, 9%), fluoroquinolones (69 ; 4%), and azithromycin (37 ; 2, 1%). Combination of two or more of the above mentioned antibiotics received 278 (15, 8%) patients while the remaining 241 (8, 6%) received other antibiotics. The most common manifestation in patients hospitalized for urogenital infections was pyelonephritis in 1535 (87, 4%) patients, followed by cystitis in 87 (4, 9%), and prostatitis in 46 (2, 6%). E. coli was isolated in 1016 (57, 8%) patients, Proteus mirabilis in 65 (36, 6%), Enterococcus in 82 (2, 9%), and mixed infections in 108 (3, 8%). Cure and improvement were recorded in 1664 (94, 7%) cases. This analysis indicates a wide spectrum of Pliva's antimicrobial agents for the treatment of urogenital infections, with only aminoglycosides missing.
