Sažetak
Highly volatile dimethylmercury (CH3)2Hg species was initially detected in sediments and seawater samples of the Kaštela Bay (Eastern Adriatic coast) in the vicinity of a chlor-alkali plant. The detection limits in seawater and sediment samples are 0.01 ng L-1 Me2Hg (450 ml volume of the water sample) and 0.002 ng g-1 Me2Hg (~ 7 g weight of the sediment sample), respectively.
(CH3)2Hg was found only in a very restricted area (of about 300 m2) of the Kaštela Bay, in the concentration range between 0.003 and 0.150 ng g-1 sediment, and 0.02-0.120 ng L-1 seawater.
