Sažetak
Starting a new scientific journal in a small Balkan postcommunist war-torn country is difficult. We were aware of that unfortunate string of adjectives when we published the first issue of the Croatian Medical Journal in 1992, but we wanted to push Croatian scientists out of the false security of domestic journals and set high standards for publishing biomedical research data in Croatia.
