In Croatia, the 1992-95 war was especially disruptive for the paediatric dental health-care system. Specialist paediatric dental services and all preventive dental programmes, which had been functioning for more than 30 years, were discontinued in 1992 because of the effects of the conflict as well as newly imposed financial stringencies.
