A study was made about the fecundity of Spicara maena, collected in the eastern central Adriatic Sea at the peak of spawning period (from 16 September to 10 October). Females, due to protogyny, were observed up to a total length of 20.0 cm. Absolute fecundity varied from a minimum of 42140 for age 20 to a maximum 80509 eggs for age 30. The mean oocyte diameter ranged from 1.68 to 1.92 mm. Relationship between the absolute fecundity and fish total weight, and total length were best described by the following exponential equations: Fl = 33.4 Lt2.6 (R2 = 0.933) and Fw = 560.2Wt + 15874 (R2 = 0.693). There was no significant correlation between size of oocyts and maternal size.
