Sažetak
Good vocal hygiene and protection of the voice should be an important responsibility of every singer. The present study investigates the basic knowledge on voice hygiene in three groups of choir-singers - professionals, semiprofessionals and amateurs. The data were collected by a questionnaire constructed for the purpose of the study. The results showed that professional choir-singers scored the best, followed by semiprofessionals and amateurs. The later two were found to be an uninformed voice users. Because of lack of adequate voice education, those singers have a poor understanding of the capacities and limitations of the vocal apparatus. Closer inspection and the results of statistical analysis showed that the knowledge mostly did not group into firm and recognizable clusters. This indicated inadequate awareness of voice as well as importance of voice care. Apparently, learning in this field is individual and non-systematic, resulting in scattered and non-related knowledge. These results have a practical significance. They suggest the need of introducing voice hygiene program to choir-singers. They need practical questions to be answered. Such knowledge surely lead to optimal training and minimal risk of vocal injury, providing voice endurance and long-lasting enjoyment in singing activity.
