Sažetak
There is no doubt that teaching requires "a lot of voice". Unfortunately, Croatian teachers have no vocal preparation during their formal education. The aim of the present study was to investigate knowledge on vocal education and vocal hygiene in future school teachers. Two types of questionnaire were applied on sample of future teachers (N=184) and control sample (students of other professions, N=143). The first questionnaire consisted of 20 items with three answers offered - "correct", "I don't know" and "incorrect", and the other one included 6 questions with no answers offered. In order to examine the differences between the two samples, discriminant analyses were conducted for each questionnaire separately. The results showed statistically significant differences between samples in both questionnaires, showing that future teachers achieved better results. However, descriptive analyses revealed unexpected results ; both samples scored rather poorly in both questionnaires. It is disturbing that future teachers have such a lack of knowledge in concepts of vocal education so important for their future work. These results indicate an urgent need to include vocal education and vocal training in education of future teachers in Croatia so that the efficacy of their everyday work is at optimum level, and voice disorders prevented.
