Sažetak
Silicon nitride is among the important construction materials replacing steel at high temperature and/or corrosive ambients. It was shown in the paper that the preparation of the proper, medium quality powder suitable for the sintering procedure can be achieved by carbothermic SiO2 reduction and subsequent nitridation. The mechanism of the process occuring during preparation of the Si3N4 powder is proposed as well. Characterization of some particular properties of the powder has also been performed in order to estimate its suitability at the sintering.
