Sažetak
The purpose of the study was to assess basic knowledge about voice care, and knowledge about and use of voice protection behaviours among professional, semiprofessional and amateur choral singers. Singers from three choral ensembles were selected as respondents to an assessment instrument and a two-item questionnaire that were created to carry out the study's purpose. The data were processed on the descriptive and on the multivariate level. The results showed that professionals (N=41) scored best on a voice care assessment instrument, followed by semiprofessionals (N=71) and amateurs (N=35). The latter two were found to be less informed voice users. All choral singers achieved the best scores on items related to traditional voice care recommendations (sound sleep and physical exercise), while the poor knowledge was related to items indicating possible voice problems due to hormonal factors (birth control pills and PMS), and surprisingly to hydration of the vocal mechanism. The results suggest the need for introducing a voice care program to all categories of choral singers, particularly amateurs and semiprofessionals who may seek professional help regarding voice problems too late.
